Education Minister Marwan Hamadeh Friday ordered an investigation into a case of child-beating in one of the schools in the southern city of Sidon.

The minister tasked the head of the Ministry of Education's pedagogical zone in Sidon Bassem Abbas with suspending the teacher involved in the abuse.

The teacher will be questioned Saturday.

Ten-year-old Ahmad Al-Masri, a fifth grade student, was admitted to a hospital Thursday afternoon after his parents noticed bruises covering his chest.

Masri said that he had been hit by a teacher at his Lebanese-Kuwaiti public school in the city.

Nazek Chahine, Ahmad's mother, demanded that the education minister immediately carry out the necessary measures.

"My friends began telling the teacher to stop beating me," Ahmad said, adding that his teacher had snapped and began hitting him after an argument broke out between them.

The school's principal said that no accusations can be made until authorities investigate the incident.
